Chesapeake diners and foodies are invited to enjoy a variety of culinary treats while helping provide free health care for some of its residents.
The 12th Taste of Chesapeake low carb diet tips takes place Thursday at the Norfolk Marriott Chesapeake in Greenbrier.
For a $30 donation, patrons can sample offerings from some of the region’s top restaurants and food services. The all-one-can-consume evening will benefit the Chesapeake Care free clinic.
“It’s very popular, people enjoy the idea of going from station- to-station, enjoying fine foods and beverages from some of the city’s leading restaurants,” said Ginger Hampton, secretary to the clinic’s board of directors.
Diners will be able to taste specialties offered by 16 different companies .
The beneficiary is the free clinic, a facility at South Military Highway that provides health care and dental services to those who could not otherwise afford it (see related story, Page 1 ).
Hampton said the clinic realizes most of its financial support from this Taste event, plus an annual spring golf tournament, and a giving campaign.
“The money we raise goes to the general day-to-day clinic operations,” Hampton said.
Thursday’s evening will include a silent auction of 22 two-foot high Christmas trees, designed by local artists and florists, and music by Joe Maniscalco. The local award-winning entertainer is noted for his laid-back tropical musical attitude .
“This will be an evening of socialization, great food and great entertainment, all to benefit a great cause,” Hampton said.
